Precision Communications

In today’s competitive arena, it’s no longer enough to be good at what you do.

Technical excellence will get you onto the playing field, but your ability to deliver clear messages about the value you provide, in the way the customer wants to hear it, will be what puts you in the finals. By learning to pay attention to how people talk, rather than what they talk about, we can learn to wrap our specialist knowledge and skills in language patterns that not only educate our customers about what we do, but motivate them to want to work with us.

With a strong focus on immediate application, this unique and lively session is not an exercise in theoretical concepts, but a skill building opportunity that emphasizes practical relevance. Participants will explore some of the simple, yet powerful questions from the Language and Behavior profiling tool which allow us to decode below conscious motivations embedded in everyday communications.

In this session participants will learn some simple language formulas to:

  • Understand what motivates each of your customers

  • Avoid saying the wrong thing accidently

  • Position your service the way your customer wants to hear it

  • Match your language to how your customer thinks and gets motivated

Critical Conversations

How to have the conversations you don't want to have.
  • Have you ever avoided an important conversation?
  • Are you worried about the impact of saying what you really want too?
  • Ever felt nervous about confronting a sensitive issue?
  •

Well it's likely that you have, because like the rest of us, you are human after all! The good news is that you can develop the skills necessary to hold these conversations sensitively and skilfully. The real key however, is not just knowing how to have them, but actually having them!

In this session we will explore our own personal strategies for successfully having (or avoiding) these conversations.

    Learning outcomes:

    · Understand the key principles of a successful critical conversation

    · Identify areas of development for yourself and what to do about it

    · Prepare for your own real life critical conversation using the formula provided

Credible communications – Is your value lost in translation?

An exploration of credible language and behaviour for powerful women in the workplace

(This piece can be adapted for a mixed or junior audience as well)

  • Do you start sentences with I think, I feel and I may be wrong but why don’t we..?
  • Do you politely wait your turn to speak and find it just never comes?
  • Do you sometimes feel that people aren’t taking you seriously?
  • Do you talk too much when you get nervous or worse still don’t talk at all?
  • Do you stand with your weight on one foot, or shift your weight back and forth?
  •

If you answered yes to any of these questions then you may be inadvertently undermining your own credibility. You may be a power house of knowledge and experience but if your language patterns and non verbal cues do not support this truth then your professional credibility and value is in danger of being lost in translation.

Too often women unconsciously sabotage their success by using language and behaviour that belies their true talents and abilities. But there is hope to be found within a simple, yet powerful formula for credible communications in the workplace.

This highly interactive and practical workshop provides a fresh perspective on communication and the language of success by exploring the key credibility killers in any communication context. Come along and find out if you are unknowingly sending the wrong signals about your capability and more importantly what to do about it!

In this session the participants will:

    • Explore various language patterns that undermine credibility and confidence and learn how to avoid them

    • Discover the non verbal signals that enhance your professional presence when communicating

    What have other clients said?

"Anneli Blundell from Motivation Matters was a speaker and workshop presenter at the 2011 Government Recruitment and Retention Conference. To say Anneli’s presence was a high point of the conference is an understatement. Over the past ten years I seen over 500 presentations and Anneli’s was definitely above the 95th percentile.  Anneli was very well prepared, extremely knowledgeable and highly engaging. The response from delegates was very positive. We would gladly have Anneli speak at one of our conferences in the future. I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Anneli and Julie from Motivation Matters for being part of the event, they were a joy to deal with.”
